Ever since I was a little kid I have had an absurd obsession with Halloween! I don’t know if it’s all of the Halloweentown, The Craft & Hocus Pocus I watched or if I just fell in love with the magic in it all but it’s stuck. Nowadays my friends and family eagerly wait for my grand reveal of my standard 3 costumes a year lol… Especially now that I have a family I make sure that my son, boyfriend and I all coordinate in something unique and creative.
Creativity is in my nature, my mom is super crafty and has always made sure to get me involved. It is one of the main things that we could bond over as we equally obsess over Halloween and literally everything inside of Hobby Lobby or Michael’s! The idea of forming a business around both of these things (crafts & Halloween) is literally brought up EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR…but honestly up until this year I was just an idea person. I have great ideas, I always have, but I was always too scared to execute them. The closest people to me would always roll their eyes when I would turn into their #1 cheerleader and tell them not to give up and to follow their dreams! “Why don’t you take your own advice for once, Monique?” was a question I’ve heard well over 100 times! Needless to say it took a combination of things to finally change me into a do-er.
Over the summer I conquered quite a few scary things. I went for a job in a field that I was passionate about and got it, I attended my first open mic and I decided to get involved in my community and became a part of Adelante Mami. All of these things have something in common. Do you know what that is? I DID THEM! I did them, I didn’t talk about them I actually did them, I followed through and once idea people (me) start to actually do things magic happens. You know the same type of magic I get from Halloween. Doing things is actually pretty addictive and you start to think that you could DO every idea that comes to mind. So when this summer came to an end and people started to ask what my family costume was going to be and the Halloween business conversation came up once again, I did it! In literally two weeks I got my mom on board as my business partner and my boyfriend whipped up an amazing logo and “CREEP BOUTIQUE” was born.
Creep Boutique is an online shop that specializes in hand-crafted home décor and fashion accessories. We have pillows, wall decorations, chokers, hair clips and our inventory is steadily growing. We launched on October 14th with a selection of about 12 items. The idea behind it is that Halloween or anything with a creepy aesthetic could be used all year around. I hope to eventually master resin, polymer clay and leather and start to really put some amazingly unique products out there for people that love this magical time just as much as me!
